São José do Rio Preto, Country Style Capital

Known as the capital of the State of São Paulo's 8th regional administrative region, in Brazil, São José do Rio Preto, as it is also known, is proud to be the host of a number of country, cattle-breeding and agrobusiness events.

BRF: In your opinion, what impact is there from the growing number of regional events connected to the country side, farm business and cowboy culture?

Gislaine Franzoti: I believe the growth in such events in the region is positive, since it is a coyntryside tradition to carry out country-and-farm directed festivals. An example is the new kind of school country music, that is, a new concept of country music that is emerging and standing out more and more nationwide. Thus, the investment in that segment is larger, but of course traditional country music has not ceased to have and to guarantee its space. I also realize that the country style is “invading” such other traditional festivities as Carnival. We had an off-season "micaneja" in Potirendaba earlier this year, which was a mixture of country-style music and "axé" music, and we noticed the blend had a successful outcome.

BRF: Does your administration support such events with active participation? Can you mention one or some of them?

Gislaine Franzoti: The present administration supports country-and-farm oriented events, as long as the town has that kind of culture as its root. The traditional festival in the farm sector is Potirendaba's Country Festival, which is scheduled to hold its 29th edition on August 11-15. Our last year's country festival was attended by a public of more than 50 thousand people during all event nights. What draws the people's attention at the festival are tradition, infra-structure, the careful organization and security it provides to all lovers of the country style world.

Potirendaba also made something new earlier this year and promoted a "micaneja" at Carnival, a mixture of offseason Carnival and country styles. We topped all expectations and we intend to carry the event on. The "Carnapoti" -- Potirendaba's Carnival -- brought together over 30 thousand revellers in the five revelling nights. There was a country singing duet performing every day and after an "axé" band performed, both joined "Magia" sound-and-stage truck, which was also a Carnapoti special feature. I take this opportunity to invite all people to Potirendaba's 29th Country Festival which will be staging big surprises and featuring great performers.
